"The scientific statement of being"

The whole world is going through a period of mental and moral chemicalization. There is a keen awareness of the complexity of the problems confronting us. And with this awareness there is a growing conviction that something higher than mere human wisdom is required to find their solutions.

In her chapter entitled "Science of Being" in the Christian Science textbook, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, gives us an exceedingly perceptive statement that is being confirmed daily. It reads: "Belief in a material basis, from which may be deduced all rationality, is slowly yielding to the idea of a metaphysical basis, looking away from matter to Mind as the cause of every effect." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 268;

All the problems we seem to be involved in have to do with "belief in a material basis, from which may be deduced all rationality." It was from this material basis of thought that Christ Jesus came to release mankind. And what a problem-solver he was! He left not only the example of a profound metaphysician but, in his understanding of God's allness, he left the very basis of divine metaphysics, which Mrs. Eddy later discovered and presented to the world in Christian Science.
