Man Is Never Threatened
In great seriousness one boy asked an older one, "Did God make a devil?" The older boy, who was a student of Christian Science, answered in this way: "No, God didn't make evil! God is Love, and—besides—He'd be too intelligent to make something that would foul up His creation."
The simple truth that God, good, does not make evil, or a devil, to threaten man is a leading point in Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "Nothing is more disheartening than to believe that there is a power opposite to God, or good, and that God endows this opposing power with strength to be used against Himself, against Life, health, harmony." Science and Health, p. 380;
Accepting the concept that God creates only good, we can see the insidious, spurious nature of belief in evil's reality. Devilish threats of sin, lack, disease, and death are not of God; thus they are not real, and in Science we need not fear them.
