My parents came into Christian Science before I was born, as the result of my grandmother's healing of a disease considered terminal. She lived a full and normal life for over twenty years thereafter, and I had the pleasure of living with her during my high school days.
There were five children in our family. We all learned early, through parental guidance, that God is ever present to meet our every need, and that He guides us. Physical problems were quickly met as we applied what we learned from the weekly Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and studied the Bible and the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
I remember one incident when we children were playing in the haymow. When I jumped from a beam, my leg was pierced with a pitchfork. The healing was immediate when Mother read "the scientific statement of being" from the textbook. It begins (p. 468), "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." We knew that "under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection"(ibid., p. 424).
