In 1965, I was suddenly stricken with what a doctor diagnosed as acute arthritis, later changing the name to rheumatoid, then to osteoarthritis. He prescribed medicine. However, my condition worsened, and I was in bed for several months. When I was again able to get around, I did so with great difficulty, and also suffered loss of appetite and weight. After a lengthy consultation with a specialist the doctor continued the same medication as he had nothing new to offer. But I was fast losing interest in living.

My husband, who is not a student of Christian Science, and a good friend of ours encouraged me to try Science. I went to see a practitioner. She asked if I was taking medicine. I answered, "I have been taking a lot of medicine, but in my hurry to get here I forgot to take two pills, so I am that much ahead." When I arrived home, I threw out all the medicine, and I have taken none since.
