Scientific Prayer Is Practical Meditation

Many people wonder how they can achieve more peace and confidence, how they can fully develop their potential and enjoy genuine peace. Communing with God, divine Life, is a sure way. Christian Science clearly explains how each one can do this through admitting the ultimate truth of being. This has practical consequences, for, as experience shows, Christian Science is not merely contemplative and meditative.

Divine Life is the source of all substance and intelligence. Mrs. Eddy tells us: "He advances most in divine Science who meditates most on infinite spiritual substance and intelligence. Experience proves this true." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 309; Science explains the method of communing with God. It explains not only the nature of God but the true identity of all, the actual spiritual identity of those doing the communing. In divine reality there is no finite mortal to commune with infinite Being. Man is the infinite idea of Mind, or God, timelessly coincident with Mind, and man knows it.

Communing with God is not a matter of a mortal looking out to something immortal, but it is the immortal known to be present as the only reality. Establishing the basic understanding involved in communing with God, meditating "on infinite spiritual substance and intelligence"—we might ask how can we do this.
