"I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight" (Luke 10:21). I got to know about Christian Science through a healing of relapsing fever, in December, 1967, shortly after my return from England to the equatorial climate of Nigeria in West Africa.

I was brought up in a Christian family and have never been used to drugs. The fever started one afternoon at work, and I was rushed home unconscious, but the following morning I was well enough to go back to work. But around twelve noon, the fever came upon me again and continued on and off for several days. During these fearful afternoons and evenings, I used all types of material medical aid, to no avail. One evening I felt extremely ill. My temperature was exceedingly high, and I lost all hope and turned to God to take my life.

During this struggle a relative whom I did not then know as a student of Christian Science, as I had not heard about that religion, came and found me in a complete mess of mortal enslavement. He knew me to be a devoted Christian, and he spoke to me of God in language I could clearly grasp. He continued talking with me for forty-five minutes, and by the time he was ready to leave I was able to stand, dress myself, and see him off at the main gate.
