Overcoming Allergies

In spite of all the beauty of spring, to many individuals spring air brings discomfort and annoyance. The buds forming on the rosebush and elsewhere are, for these people, harbingers of irritation due to allergies.

The teachings of Christian Science come as a fresh, healing breeze, awaking thought to the perpetual harmony and perfection of the universe as created by God. The beauties in nature are then seen as evidence of God's love. One learns in Science that the universe is created by divine Spirit, Love, and is entirely spiritual and good. Man is therefore spiritual. He is the likeness of his Maker. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Man is the idea of Spirit; he reflects the beatific presence, illuming the universe with light." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 266;

But what about all the irritating pollen? How does that fit into this harmonious creation? It doesn't. Not as something causing irritation. When one understands the truth of one omnipotent creator, wholly good, and one creation reflecting this creative Mind, he rules out of his experience inharmony and irritation. A world belief ignorant of the truth of the perfect creation is the cause of the trouble. Christian Science calls the supposed source of these beliefs "mortal mind." It is mortal mind that regards evil as a reality, a power in conflict with good. But when we understand that God, good, is all-power, material beliefs have no power to make us suffer.
