Connect the Positive to the Positive

The other day our transistor radio needed a new energizer—a battery. A new one was inserted, but when the switch was turned on, nothing happened.

Checking back over the installation, we discovered that in spite of instructions plainly printed in the energizer compartment, the plus, or positive, pole had been mistakenly connected with the negative side of the radio circuit. When the correct connection of positive to positive was made, the radio received programs perfectly. Laws of physics govern the flow of energy from the energizer through the radio circuit. For the radio to operate, the flow can only take place in one direction.

As a student of Christian Science, I saw in the incident an opportunity for metaphysical thought. Metaphysics goes beyond physics and is concerned with ultimate reality.
