As a child, and up to the age of twenty, I was taught in the Christian Science Sunday School the simple yet profound truths that have become a way of life for me, a source of strength and guidance in times of financial and physical needs. My appreciation continues to grow for having been guided so rightly during those early formative years and long after my Sunday School days were over.

When I was in my early teens, a goiter was becoming quite noticeable, and a family doctor said I would have to have an operation sometime in the future. Later, it was necessary for me to seek employment at the only place available—the telephone company, as an operator. A physical examination was required, and when the examining nurse noticed the goiter, she said I would have to see the company doctor as any throat difficulty would make me unacceptable. However, I went directly to my Sunday School teacher, who was also a Christian Science practitioner. She gave me a prayerful treatment, so that when I went to see the company doctor two days later, he said he could find no evidence of any glandular trouble whatever. I was able to work, using my voice constantly for some years.

At age eighteen slight heart palpitation and pains frequently occurred. This was overcome in Christian Science, and no trouble was encountered until some forty years later, when a condition was again evident that was severe and alarming. During a talk with a Christian Science practitioner about this, she reminded me that Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 151): "The blood, heart, lungs, brain, etc., have nothing to do with Life, God. Every function of the real man is governed by the divine Mind." This healing has been permanent for many years now.
