When my oldest son was in high school, I noticed he was using his understanding of Christian Science in sports. During the spring of his senior year he participated in several jumping events for the track team of his school. I could see how his thought was uplifted as he applied the truth that man expresses the activity of divine Mind, which includes balance, strength, freedom, joy, and so forth. And his performance began to take on the same dimensions.
This inspired me to work along the same lines and uplift my thought with the truth of being, but from the standpoint of a spectator. Instead of going to a track meet fearing bad sportsmanship or injury, I began to see a more worthwhile purpose for sports and all wholesome activity. I became aware of the fine qualities these boys were expressing, such as patience, obedience, strength, courage, and I was especially gratified to see the overcoming of many limitations and to witness physical healing through complete reliance on Christian Science.
