After I had read all the testimonies in recent issues of the Christian Science Sentinel and The Christian Science Journal, I decided not to wait another day without expressing my gratitude for those who have shared their experiences through the periodicals. Over the years the testimonies have given me support and encouragement in being a mother and raising my children. Through relying completely on the teachings of Christian Science each illness the children encountered was healed.

At the time the oldest boy in the family was three I had just become a member of The Mother Church and a branch church, had had class instruction, and was inspired with my study of Christian Science. While bathing the child, I noticed that his body was peppered with chicken pox. I was shocked and momentarily concerned because relatives, not Christian Scientists, would soon arrive for dinner, and I felt they would be very concerned if they saw evidence of this disease.

I put the child in his bed for a nap and sat down to study the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings. I had such a complete conviction that this disease was no part of the child. I knew that I did not have to accept it as any part of his or my experience. God had not made disease. He only made that which is good, as the first chapter of Genesis tells us. Chicken pox is not good; therefore a child of God could not have this disease. Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 463) "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" was a tremendous help.
