When our son was only a year old...

When our son was only a year old, it seemed quite possible that I would be left to raise him alone. My husband was ill, and had tried everything available in material medicine, but was gradually growing weaker and more discouraged.

We were living in the home of a Christian Scientist, and one day I picked up her copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. It was the first copy of the book I had ever seen. I read at random, but enough to see that here was help if I could understand it and have it presented to my husband. I called a friend who had tried at one time to talk to us of the benefits of Christian Science. He agreed to have a talk with my husband. Our friend presented Science in a quiet, reasonable, and reassuring manner. He exacted a promise that we would study the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and attend church services for three months.

He said, "If at the end of three months you do not feel better and see that you are being helped, I shall never talk to you of Christian Science again." We set about to keep our agreement, but long before the three months were up we had disposed of all medicine. The sleeplessness and nervous disorders, together with the pain and suffering that had troubled my husband, had completely vanished. The healing was permanent. Our business problems also began to dissipate. The world seemed much more beautiful.
