Mind and Body

I had been enjoying an afternoon of horseback riding with several friends. We were galloping along at a fast rate when suddenly I felt myself flying through the air and landing flat on my back on a hard uneven surface.

"Can you move?" one friend called as the others turned their horses and came up to me. I recall the next few moments distinctly. I did not try to move before I replied. I did not test the movement of my legs and arms before I called out, "I'm all right."

To my friends, none of whom were Christian Scientists, this statement may have sounded like a simple, straightforward reply. But behind that seemingly simple sentence "I'm all right" was a firm, radical conviction of my perfection as the spiritual image and likeness of God. This conviction was based on years of study and practice of the healing truths of Christian Science. Actually the statement was a prayer, an affirmation of my unbroken relationship with God. He, the protector; I, the protected.
