In the textbook, Science and Health...

In the textbook, Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 76): "The sinless joy,—the perfect harmony and immortality of Life, possessing unlimited divine beauty and goodness without a single bodily pleasure or pain,—constitutes the only veritable, indestructible man, whose being is spiritual."

In joy and gratitude, let me say that with the help of a faithful practitioner, listed in The Christian Science Journal, and with the love of family, I was healed of paralysis and pain accompanied by loss of control of muscles and symptoms of arthritis. I was helped in my prayerful study to overcome extreme fear by pondering passages in the textbook on the subjects of Ego-God and Ego-man. One sentence reads (p. 281), "The Ego-man is the reflection of the Ego-God; the Ego-man is the image and likeness of perfect Mind, Spirit, divine Principle."

My husband arranged for me to stay at the Christian Science Benevolent Association, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where the nursing care was both compassionate and efficient. Among the staff the qualities of patience and joy were apparent. The song services brought me great blessing, especially one particular song-prayer of two talented and generous nurses who sang German lieder in the corridor near my room.
