Why a Doctor Turned to Christian Science

[Original in German]

The grand teachings of Christian Science came into my life when, as a student planning to become a medical doctor, I met the young Christian Scientist who later became my wife. Even my first glimpse of the omnipotence of divine Love provided protection and care, especially in the difficult years of the Second World War. After the end of the war, my interest in this way of thinking increased, and I began to read Christian Science literature.

In the beginning, the many testimonies of healing in The Herald of Christian Science, written with such deep faith and gratitude, especially caught my interest as a young medical doctor. Soon, however, it was the deep spirituality of this religion that more and more attracted my thought. I began to discern the true, unadulterated Christianity that was going to give my life new meaning and a firm spiritual foundation.

As an inevitable consequence, healings occurred through my own turning to this Science of the Christ, and through the loving, helpful prayer of family members. For example, a recidivous disturbance—with extensive blindness in my right eye—was resolved, so that I was enabled to see clearly again; this had been preceded by cataract surgery. My wife experienced a harmonious childbirth at home after several complicated deliveries in the hospital during the war; severe, extensive burns suffered by my little daughter healed painlessly without scars; and many other healings took place.
