I was introduced to Christian Science when I was ten years old...
I was introduced to Christian Science when I was ten years old, and throughout my Sunday School years I had many proofs of the healing power of Truth. But it was only when I became fully responsible for myself that I understood what it means to be a Christian Scientist.
Once I discovered, through Christian Science, that good was to be sought, lived, and loved for itself, because it is of God and confers happiness, I began to try to replace the false traits of character I had been accepting as being part of myself. But then I wondered why things were getting worse instead of better. The peace I was seeking seemed out of reach as one discord after another came into my experience.
Family relationships became very strained, till finally I became ill. For a few days I struggled with the problem. As I prayed for more light, it became obvious I had been seeing myself as a sinning mortal trying to become perfect. This attitude made me see the others around me as sinning mortals trying to hinder my path. It all appeared to be human will, self-righteousness, and false witness bearing.
