My interest in Christian Science began when a superintendent...

My interest in Christian Science began when a superintendent in a Christian Science Sunday School asked me to act as organist for the Sunday School. Even though I had attended many other Sunday Schools, this one gave me much satisfaction.

My mother had suffered from migraine for many years. While working, I was struck with the same problem. Since Mother had had no help from material medicine, she insisted that I have treatment from a Christian Science practitioner. Though I did not talk to the practitioner during any of the treatment, I knew that I had to do three things to live up to my highest concepts of Christian Science at that time. I must not take any medicine, nor act as if I were sick by staying home, nor say I was sick. The second day I called to tell the practitioner that I had been healed.

After marriage, and during the war, I lived with a Christian Science family. At that time I was told that I must have a surgical operation. I was in the depth of despair because of the many operations I had witnessed in our family. One thing I had gained from my years in Sunday School was that God really did love His children and that His love included me. So I called a practitioner, and was overjoyed when she greeted me with, "Joan dear, don't you know that God loves you?"
