One day in 1923, I walked onto the veranda of our home in Brisbane, Queensland, and found my father engrossed in a book he told me was Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and that it was the textbook of Christian Science. This teaching, he added, was what he and my mother, for a considerable time, had been looking for. As our family religious background was Protestant, and we had a leaning toward homeopathy, it did not take long for us to accept the teachings of Christian Science. Both parents were active for years in branch church work.
I was in my early twenties at the time of this first interest, and over the next twenty–five years attended Christian Science church services at home and overseas, joining The Mother Church in 1948. I then joined a branch church. I have enjoyed active church work and have been privileged to undertake a number of church offices. In 1968, I had class instruction, and this opened up for me a wider and more joyous awareness of my responsibilities in world affairs and to my fellowman.
