Rest Your Case with the Court of Spirit

An allegory of a court case appears on pages 430–442 of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. It illustrates how health laws tend to hold mankind in physical bondage and condemn them to reliance on matter and material means of healing. In addition, it shows how, by appealing to the judgment of the higher Court of Spirit, one can gain his freedom from these restricting material laws.

This freedom is often attained in Christian Science through treatment by argument. This consists of positive affirmation of specific spiritual truths concerning man's perfect relationship to his creator, the infinite Father-Mother God, as well as vigorous denials of the reality and power of any false, material beliefs claiming to control or influence God's creation.

However, many healings in Christian Science are achieved as a result of a pure spiritual conviction of the power and grace of the Christ, the timeless healing presence of divine Truth and Love, to adjust any abnormality in human experience. Subjected to the clear authority of this powerful presence, any false suggestion of discord cannot thrive. God, good, knows nothing of it and therefore cannot have created it.
