No Trespassers

Have you ever wanted something desperately? To be that person's girl friend; to have clothes as stunning as your classmate; to be captain of your sport's team; to have someone special to share things with; to win fame and success in your future?

The things that go on inside our consciousness are often compelling. Our ambitions may be overpowering, our longings urgent, our daydreams vivid and fantastic. It's all supposed to be a normal part of growing up, we're told. But does growing up have to be three-fourths torture? Do we have to go through one phase after another of fear and longing and crisis and confusion? Is sensual experimentation the way to the liberation of our real, deep selves?

Christian Science is for people who want to be honest with themselves and God. Even though it teaches man's innate perfection, it doesn't close its eyes to any misery and confusion—not even our own. It gives us the tools to cope with troubled feelings, to be honest in disentangling what is real in our individuality from what is only a counterfeit experience. This takes self-knowledge of the spiritual kind, something deeper than a self-indulgent exploration of the labyrinths of a materialistic mentality. Spiritual self-knowledge is the humble discernment of God's creation in the light of which illusions about life are detected and rejected.
