I have learned many wonderful lessons through Christian Science about absolute reliance on prayer for solving all problems. I have proved many times that, no matter how severe the trial, if we don't give up praying we can't lose.

One such proof occurred several years ago. One day I suddenly found myself unable to get up from my chair. The pain in my back was excruciating, and finally I had to be carried to bed, where I was unable to sleep all night. A day or two later, when there was still no relief from pain, I had to be put in a reclining chair, where I remained night and day for two months without being able to turn on either side. At the time, I was at our summer home with my teen-age son and daughter, who are third generation Christian Scientists, and who gave me much help and encouragement.

At first we were all quite distraught, but we quickly turned to God in prayer—the scientific prayer of acknowledging God's goodness and love and denying any power apart from Him. I resolved to make the experience one that I could learn something from.
