Healing by overcoming false mental influence

The false mentality, named in Christian Science mortal mind, is conquerable. Its influence can be overcome and its effects nullified by understanding the truth of the one Mind. The result verifies what Mrs. Eddy says of it in her definition: "Mortal Mind. Nothing claiming to be something, for Mind is immortal; mythology; error creating other errors." Science and Health, p. 591.

We overcome the false influence of mortal mind by recognizing when we are being falsely influenced and by understanding the nothingness both of the images produced by this influence and of their source. Human conflicts, accidents, frustrations, lusts, self-centeredness, and so on are illusions produced in our conscious experience by the influence of mortal mind. So are disease symptoms—pain, fever, malfunctions, growths, loss of control, tiredness, and so on. Some of these seem to be formed first in other people's thoughts. We take them on because we are influenced by what others believe. But the source is mortal mind, not people.

The way to overcome human discords or disease symptoms, therefore, is to go beyond the condition itself, beyond the belief that we are influenced by people's opinions, to the source. The source of all discord is mortal mind. And we can declare rightly that mortal mind is "nothing claiming to be something."
