through reflecting the qualities of Soul

How natural it is in Christian Science to turn to contemplation of the spiritual meaning of the word Soul in order to refresh and spiritualize consciousness! The Psalmist showed some understanding of this when he wrote: "Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee." Ps. 143:8; Here the Psalmist expressed the need for reassurance that he was under God's loving care, under His guidance. And he saw he would obtain that reassurance by lifting his thought up to God, above and away from the human sense of things. He had found a sure way of spiritualizing thought—by dwelling on the perfection of God instead of viewing the human scene with its inharmonies.

In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy thus explains the distinction between Soul and soul: "As used in Christian Science, Soul is properly the synonym of Spirit, or God; but out of Science, soul is identical with sense, with material sensation." Science and Health, p. 482;

Christian Scientists strive to understand Soul, God, as the very opposite of all that is material. They comprehend Soul as the acme of purity, sinlessness, harmony—the things of Spirit—all that is contrary to impurity, sinfulness, discord, matter.
