No Packhorse Peace

With a farewell wave to old Jim at the boundary gate, the young horseman and his packhorses moved off. Where? Anywhere; but move, move he must.

"You young 'uns can't stay still. Think you're fenced in," said Jim.

Many young people may regard such restlessness as a modern phenomenon. They may consider it a way of life that repudiates what they see as outmoded social authority. But it is not unique to our day. It is as old as humanity itself. It does not necessarily stem from the mistakes of our ancestors but from our own acceptance of the belief that we are mortals, the offspring of mortals, and here against our will.
