Denying Discordant Evidence

What is it that enables one to face discordant physical evidence and confidently say, "Even though you seem to be very real, I know that you are not"?

It is the clear and unshakable realization that, in reality, man is spiritual, made in the image and likeness of God, Spirit. Therefore he is always perfect, even as God is perfect. This concept of man, which is the view presented in the first chapter of Genesis, completely contradicts the belief that man is a material entity separate from God. This view Christian Science explains as spiritual fact.

Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, possessed in large measure this clear and unshakable conviction of man's perfection. In the Gospels we find many examples of how he used this understanding to heal others. One such example is found in Matthew's account of Jesus' healing of a man who had a withered hand. We read, "Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other."^{Matt. 12:13;}
