Carla stooped down to read the writing on the sidewalk. There in big, black painted letters she saw, "Carla stinks."
She knew who had put the words there. The kids in her fourth grade class. Dorie and Yvette had egged them into ganging up on her.
The two girls had been spreading stories. They said all sorts of things: "Carla is being mean to us. She won't play with us. She tells stories about us behind our backs." Even Mrs. Williams, Carla's teacher, believed Dorie and Yvette.
