About three years ago I experienced a remarkable healing
About three years ago I experienced a remarkable healing. I want to express gratitude from the housetops for relief from the imprisoning pain that constituted the experience, for growth in spiritual understanding that made my healing possible, and for the dedicated Christian Science practitioners whose help was particularly noteworthy in this instance.
One Monday morning I was polishing my shoes, preparing to go to work. When the polishing was done after three or four minutes, I found it difficult to stand upright. I assumed the condition to be momentary and went ahead with my usual activity in getting to work. It soon became evident that the condition was more than fleeting. As the day progressed, I became uncomfortable whether I was sitting, standing, or walking. I had ample occasion to give thought to the truth that man is inseparable from God—that if God could not be restricted in His omniaction, then neither could man. I finished the day at work, but felt it necessary to call a practitioner for treatment to help in freeing me from the condition that by now was painful as well as physically constraining.
But the problem became worse—so much so that when I wanted to arise one morning, I could not, nor could I stand to have anyone help me up, because of the pain. I finally struggled out of bed by degrees and then spent the next two days in a chair. It was during the time I spent in the chair, especially at night, that I relied on statements like these by Mrs. Eddy: "Banish the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body" (Science and Health, p. 391), and these words (Poems, p. 12):
