I was brought up in Christian Science

I was brought up in Christian Science. My parents began its study after my baby sister was healed of pneumonia in a very short time through Christian Science treatment.

We lived over sixty miles from a Church of Christ, Scientist. My parents would read to us from the Bible and from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. After reaching school age we were expected to read these books for ourselves when fear or error would try to make us believe there was a power opposed to God, good. We memorized "the scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of Science and Health. This much-loved statement includes these words: "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Also a dear relative spoke to us about Christian Science, in words children could understand.

One summer when I was very young, I climbed a mulberry tree that was covered with poison oak. I said to myself, "It won't hurt me," but I evidently did not do enough protective work, because a rash soon covered my body. I asked for help from the relative mentioned, and she gave me passages from Science and Health to study. I read these at night when it was quiet, and the rash and discomfort soon disappeared.
