A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WRITES
Why Do I Go to Church?
Essentially my reason is this: I need a basis. To live, as opposed to merely existing, I must have a foundation for any development of objectives, motives, and values. In my experience I have grown to see Christian Science as a groundwork that gives me a greater potential than do other systems that have touched my life. I say potential because I have as yet grasped only a tiny portion of what I believe to be an infinite whole.
To me, therefore, the Church of Christ, Scientist, occupies the position of educator. Or rather, it provides the place and opportunity to learn more, with the help of Sunday School teachers sharing ideas that really count.
I find it extremely easy to let human activities settle into a rather dull routine. Without stimulated thought, there is no progress. And right now the ideas and ideals of church give me a basis for progress, for right, effective thinking and development.
