I first turned to Christian Science over fifty years ago when medical aid had failed to heal me of thyroid poisoning which had made me a semi-invalid. Overcoming in my own thinking great resistance and prejudice, I sought out a Christian Science practitioner. Although I did not fully understand her instructions to deny reality to evil, acknowledge God's allness, and leave the battle to Him, I tried to obey, and in ten days I was riding horseback without a trace of the illness. This healing was so arresting that my husband never objected to my having Christian Science treatment when problems arose in bringing up our four children.

Of our many healings the following seem to me to be outstanding and show clearly the fact that healing requires first a change of thought.

Our elder son wanted above all else to play football, and his dream was fulfilled when in high school he made the varsity team. In his first game his knee was severely injured. Instead of turning to Christian Science for help, he turned to a surgeon. He was in a cast and on crutches for six months, and had electrical treatment and massage twice weekly. When there was no definite improvement, humility finally took the place of self-will, and our son decided to rely on God for healing. He asked a Christian Science practitioner for treatment, and in three days he was playing tennis without any difficulty. That was the end of that problem.
