After over thirty years of total dependence on Christian Science...
After over thirty years of total dependence on Christian Science, I feel it is high time for me to express profound gratitude for this wondrous, really practical religion. My first healing was that of grief at the sudden, accidental passing on of my father. I was not a student of Christian Science then, but great comfort came through the explanation of a Christian Science practitioner whom my wife and I visited. She said my father still lived in spiritual reality, for all eternity, although we could not then see him physically.
After this beginning there were healings of sprained ankles and of cuts. One cut appeared to have severed the tendon on my right thumb. My thumb was completely restored through the prayerful help of the same practitioner.
While moving machinery on a barge, I was struck on the head by a falling timber. There was severe bleeding. My co-workers strongly urged me to go to a hospital, but I declined, declaring that I was all right. In silent prayer I was gratefully realizing the omnipotence of God, that nothing occurs by accident in His kingdom, and so I had not been the victim of an accident. My request to be left alone was reluctantly granted. I went to the galley of a nearby tugboat, washed the blood from my hair and face, and was back at work in about a half hour. The flow of blood had ceased almost immediately. By evening when my wife examined the scalp at my request, the healing was so complete that only a thin white line remained. This also disappeared.
