Years ago I was subject to severe bouts of sickness which the doctor said I would either grow out of or continue to have all my life. The prospect didn't make me feel very good. At that time I wasn't a student of Christian Science, but I did know of it.

I was traveling in to town to do shopping one day, feeling very well and happy, when suddenly the sickness overtook me and I was in great distress. I was learning a little about how to pray as taught in Christian Science, and I quickly began to pray, and as a result I found myself quietly leaving the bus and opening the door of a Christian Science Reading Room. A woman came forward, took hold of my hands, and invited me to sit in the study room. I sat down and momentarily fell asleep. During those moments of sleep I felt something was taking place, and on waking I knew that I was healed. I was so relieved that I wanted to shout for joy. The condition never returned.

Another healing I wish to mention is that of foot trouble. Some twenty years ago I was suffering extreme pain in my feet during cold weather. I tried hard to get a clear understanding of my real, spiritual identity as a child of God, who knows no suffering; and some relief came, but was not permanent. Then the condition became worse, and my husband thought I should see a doctor. I took his advice, and the doctor told me that I would have to wear supports in my shoes all my life. I persevered with the supports, but the condition became worse than ever, and I then realized that my work was to pray more and to know myself as a perfect child of God.
