[Ability to demonstrate Christian Science comes with study and practice of the truth taught by Christ Jesus and revealed in Science and Health. This series touches upon some ways in which this truth can be applied.]
Healing by claiming the qualities of God
Discord and disease appear as evidence that we are mortals, and this evidence is false. We can destroy this evidence as we claim as our own the qualities of God, whose reflection we are. The synonyms for God—Life, Truth, Love, Spirit, Mind, Soul, Principle— help us to establish our claim.
We can rightfully claim that we are not sick because we are the image of Life, whose attributes include health, strength, agelessness, vitality. We can also claim we are not sick because we are the image of Truth, which is expressed in perfection, wholeness, timelessness, purity, integrity. We can use all the synonyms and qualities they imply and identify ourselves with them, realizing the impossibility of sickness where these qualities are expressed.
We may find that certain synonyms and qualities seem particularly applicable to a particular claim of sickness. But we would necessarily avoid attempting to classify symptoms with qualities that might counteract them. This would tempt us to use the qualities in each case as a formula, a process with built-in failure. Seeking an easy cure instead of an understanding of ourselves as God's ideas is a selfish act that works against our real objective.
