In the book of Job we read (34:3), "The ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat." Over the years the words "Christian Science" had been presented to me at various times in various ways. Finally I borrowed the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, from a relative. I can truthfully say that the first reading of this book changed the entire course of my life. While I was reading it, many healings took place, although it had not really occurred to me to read it for that purpose.

There were healings of conditions that had bothered me for several years. The habit of smoking and a painful chronic condition diagnosed as spastic colitis, accompanied by a nervous condition, which made it difficult to sleep, disappeared. These conditions were replaced with a great sense of joy, buoyancy, and serenity. At the time of which I am speaking I was employed as a registered nurse in a maternity ward of a large city hospital. As I continued to study Christian Science, my physical appearance and mental outlook were so noticeably improved that one of my nursing co-workers remarked on it.

While I remained in the hospital, there was much evidence of the effectiveness of the truth I was learning, especially in the protection of myself and others from untoward conditions. It was not long until an opportunity came for me to leave this work, and later I qualified to engage in Christian Science nursing.
