"Behold, thou art there"
One of the most comforting things Mrs. Eddy ever wrote was, "Remember, thou canst be brought into no condition, be it ever so severe, where Love has not been before thee and where its tender lesson is not awaiting thee."The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, pp. 149, 150; With the same thought in mind the Psalmist sang, "If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there."Ps. 139:8;
No matter in what situation we find ourselves, however disastrous the circumstance or tragic the argument, let us remember that in actual fact God is immediately at hand, God in full availability and power, in perfect readiness to heal and help, omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient. However graphic the evidence to the contrary, let us reassure ourselves again and again that there can be no place where God is not, where Love with its kindness, Mind with its intelligence, Life with its eternity, is not fully functioning, and that our primary need is to be conscious of this and to latch on to it with all our strength.
Human theories may argue that of necessity there come moments in every life when one despairs, feels hopeless, alone, and afraid. Christian Science offers the immediate answer to these aggressive arguments. It teaches that the universe consists solely of spiritual ideas conceived by God, divine Mind, in the likeness of His perfection, and that therefore it is not only illogical but also impossible for this Mind to create anything unlike itself. If we deny the allness of God by believing there is another mind in operation, a mortal mind knowing evil as good resident in the human brain, and if we expect this mind to help us solve our difficulties, then we are relying on the unreliable, depending on the undependable, putting our faith in an illusion.
