Christian Science has been an ever-present help in times of...
Christian Science has been an ever-present help in times of trouble. At fourteen I was engrossed by my first taste of truth, but my parents could not understand the religion and disapproved. However, since "in Christian Science there is never a retrograde step, never a return to positions outgrown" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 74), I remembered the teachings until I returned to them upon reaching legal age.
At twenty-one I had many problems to handle. I deeply resented my parents' insistence that I graduate in business. I feared that my performance ability on violin was not sufficient to earn a degree in music education. I doubted whether my savings would be sufficient to finish a music degree after finishing a business degree. I felt unloved by my parents.
I looked toward boys for love. This strong temptation was overcome by remembering my religion. Inspiration led me to telephone a young man from a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. He helped me to understand Christian Science better. Within a year we were planning our wedding. I had been led to right companionship.
