Are You a Revolutionary?
What are we looking at? Are we looking with the eyes of the spectator, the rebel, or the true revolutionary?
This is hardly a period of passive onlooking in community and national life. But what distinguishes the act of the rebel from that of the revolutionary? The difference between the two, as I see it, is the difference between sterile rebellion and fruitful revolution, between stereotyping and destereotyping.
Stereotyping? This is labeling mentally—and rebelling against what you have labeled. It may be thinking whitey, Establishment, hippie, woman driver—thinking and reacting, often with violence.
