"A name which is above every name"

An individual's name almost invariably brings to mind his character and reputation. And so it is with things. When the names of certain diseases regarded as difficult to heal are mentioned, they often arouse fear.

From a higher standpoint, "name" may represent "spiritual nature." Christian Science shows that the understanding of one's spiritual nature as a child of God is the basis from which to correct and destroy all lower names, all fearful or limiting beliefs about ourselves.

The book of Hebrews records that Jesus demonstrated the power of the Christ to "deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." Hebr. 2:15; And in his letter to the Philippians Paul thus describes the dominion of the Christ, exemplified by Jesus: "God ... hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth." Phil. 2:9, 10; Today, as we find our own true nature in Christ, we are naming a name greater than any problem confronting us, claiming a nature impervious to any ailment, whatever the name mankind may give it.
