I shall always be grateful for an experience of being alerted to pray when there was a need. I had been knowing, as we are taught in Christian Science, that we are all guided, guarded, and governed by God if we are alert and accept our rightful heritage.

One night I was suddenly awakened with a great sense of fear. I woke my husband and said, "I know Ron (our son) is in trouble; something is happening to him!" My understanding was sufficient so that I knew that I could not just lie there being afraid, and I started that very moment to pray as Mary Baker Eddy tells us (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 385), "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself."

Thinking of our son, I saw that whatever it was his duty to do he could do, without harm to himself or anyone. Many times since he has been in the Navy, I have used that wonderful truth and been freed of anxiety. I knew it so clearly that night that I soon fell asleep.
