APPRECIATION

If the trees of the field
Can clap their hands—
Why not I?
If leaves can applaud
The beneficent sky—
Why not I, why not I?

Shall I stint praise
With a loveless gaze,
Or coldly refuse
To exclaim and enthuse?

If the trees of the field
Applaud their Maker—
Shall I be a stony,
Thankless taker?
