Several months after I began the study of Christian Science, I...

Several months after I began the study of Christian Science, I was told that I had a fibrous tumor that would have to be removed. There was hemorrhaging. When all arrangements were made for me to undergo surgery and I was just waiting for a bed in the hospital, the thought came to me to talk with a Christian Science practitioner. After I told her about the problem and that my husband thought it best for me to have the operation, she asked me what I wanted. I said I wished to rely on Christian Science because I knew that the God I was praying to was the same God who had saved Daniel in the lions' den and the three Hebrew men in the fiery furnace. I said I would ask my husband to give me a little more time to work out my healing in Christian Science. The practitioner gave me this statement of Mrs. Eddy's to hold on to: "The true consciousness is the true health" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 298).

My conversation with the practitioner was on Saturday, and Monday I went back to work after being off three months. Each free moment I pondered the truths I was adding to my mental storehouse in an endeavor to keep my thought fixed on God, and to reflect true consciousness, which is health. I also often read from the Christian Science periodicals.

Through the treatment of the practitioner and my own prayerful effort I was healed. The practitioner said, "We are not seeking to change a material condition but to get a better understanding of God's law, the law of good." This healing took seven months. In this healing all inharmonious conditions left, including constipation, inward goiter, and headaches. God made me well and has kept me well. It is wonderful indeed to understand that our Physician, God, is always near.
