As a child and young woman I was an avid reader

As a child and young woman I was an avid reader. My reading was so rapid that there was a feeling of dissatisfaction each time a book was finished, because that meant another search. When at last I was ready to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which had been lovingly offered me several times by my cousins, I found the reading that truly satisfied.

Immediately after being introduced to the Lesson-Sermons, I started what has become a daily practice of diligent study of these lessons. The dictionary, Bible commentaries, Bible courses, research with aid of Concordances and encyclopedia, all have given me great satisfaction and joy. The fruitage has been wonderful, and I wish to express my gratitude and joy. A term as Second Reader has further enhanced my appreciation of these lessons, and of the Bible Lesson Committee that prepares them.

Before this turning to Christian Science came, however, I lost my faith in material medicine and hygiene, including the use of health foods. My disappointment was great when these theories and strict adherence thereto failed me in caring for my family. Only then was I ready to investigate Christian Science. I read Science and Health every spare moment, often far into the night when the family was asleep. I read with all the old eagerness, but now I knew I had found what I had been unconsciously searching for—what would satisfy all the yearnings to know God and meet all our needs.
