Getting Rid of Guilt Feelings

"This can't be cleared up with a sense of guilt. I must get rid of it!" These words came to a student of Christian Science as she thought about a perplexing problem in connection with a new business venture. Much scientific praying had been done, and progress had been realized all along the way. But now there was a need to pay some bills without an adequate balance in the bank.

Almost immediately the carnal, or mortal, mind presented its claim that the individual was inadequate, that she had procrastinated, that she shouldn't have tackled the job in the first place. Alertly, she refused to stay down on the level of mortal mind's so-called evidence and conclusions. She began to acknowledge some spiritual truths about herself as Mind's expression, directed and sustained by God. The necessary funds appeared very shortly, and the need was met, proving once again that the divine Mind's government of man is complete and intact.

How often we allow ourselves to get bogged down with feelings of guilt, often completely unjustified, when some particular activity doesn't seem to proceed rapidly enough or when it appears to fail! We find fault with ourselves by accepting the conclusion that we didn't have enough time or experience or education, or that we just didn't know the right people, to do the job correctly. Mortal mind, or evil, sometimes even attempts to sentence us to inharmony because it claims we didn't pray with sufficient earnestness. And how easy it is to blame someone else with the same kind of reasoning!
