I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel (Jer. 31:31)
The first covenant came about with the giving of the moral law at Sinai, and involved duties imposed upon the people from without. Abingdon comments: "For a covenant to endure, the law which every such covenant brings with it must cease to be something imposed from without. It must be loved and accepted as the law of life."
I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts (Jer. 31:33)
