The understanding of the Science of the Christ that we gain through our prayerful study of Christian Science has indeed met my need. Three years ago I was attacked with what seemed to be duodenal ulcers. I had treatment for several months by a Christian Science practitioner. The condition suddenly worsened one day. While alone, I suffered a severe hemorrhage. I did not lose consciousness. Just the night before, I had been reading the text of a lecture on Christian Science in The Christian Science Monitor. The lecturer spoke of a soldier who was on his way to the front line. A practitioner had told him that whatever happened he was never to lose consciousness, for God was his consciousness and his Life. This thought supported me until help came. Later a Christian Science nurse was able to be with me and give me necessary care, as well as wonderful spiritual support.

It was my wish to be taken to a Christian Science House; but, owing to the severity of the case and the law of the land, it was desirable to have a doctor's consent that I be moved. After his examination he refused to agree to my removal to any distance and said that I should go to the local hospital. Prayerful metaphysical work was continued. The practitioner and I and the nurse understood that I could only be in my right place and that I was in God's care. Later the doctor, after a talk with my daughter, reconsidered and consented to my removal but specified that it must be by ambulance.

The journey was made, and all the way I felt God's love supporting me. At the Christian Science House there was much practical evidence of God's presence and of His power to heal. I had much to learn; but after many weeks, with the help of a practitioner and the supporting love of all around me, I was spiritually reborn. We read in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 583): "Christ. The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error."
