A High School Student Writes

The Week Before the Party...

A group of girls were giving a party, and we each had to invite our own date. I asked someone whom I really liked, with the idea of dating him thereafter.

The week before the party, I was really uptight about the impression I was making; I was worried about what to say and how to act. This soon became apparent to him, and he changed from being friendly to avoiding me completely.

Up to this time, I had assumed that having right motives was good, but didn't see the point of sitting down and really thinking about them. It seemed a waste of time, but I found out differently. The party was coming up, so I knew something had to be done to change the situation. I decided to turn to Christian Science for help. What else could I do? I could have talked to the boy right then, but because of the state of my thoughts I would have blown our entire relationship. Self-righteousness and pride were too prevalent.
