The Equality of Men

The use of so-called intelligence and personality tests in education today stirs speculation about genetic and environmental influences on the child. The avowed purpose of the testing is not only to improve teaching, but to help adults foresee problems and meet them before they develop into serious deficiencies. But a good purpose does not always ensure a good result. Physical and psychological tests intended to provide a basis for understanding and curing a child's difficulties can produce those very difficulties.

Christ Jesus' teachings and healing works stressed the effects of faith. Christian Science today proves, as Jesus did, the mental nature of all seemingly physical conditions, and it demonstrates that prayer can undo a physical effect that follows a false mental conviction.

It proves further that mental limitations—whether of intelligence or personality—are of the same false nature as physical limitations. Both kinds are products of the belief of life and intelligence in matter, and they both yield to an understanding of the truth Jesus lived and taught—that God is our Father, and that we inherit our qualities and abilities from Him.
