Before 1920, my mother witnessed an outstanding healing of a neighbor through reliance on Christian Science. A toe that had been lost as a result of blood poisoning was restored. My father's mother had been practicing Christian Science with much success many years before this.

My mother's understanding at that time was meager, but her faith in God, and her capacity to pray selflessly, was bountiful. My brothers and sisters and I were enrolled in the Sunday School of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.

When I was about six years old, I was healed of a serious case of oak poisoning. A Christian Science practitioner was called, and we were assured that as we had put our trust in God we would receive good in as direct a way as we had turned to Him. She asked that my mother bring me to her office the next day. I clearly remember we walked several miles, but it was a joyful experience for me. Although neighbors predicted lasting scars from such deep scabs, this prediction was completely reversed, and in less than two weeks my healing was complete in every detail and there were no scars.

When I was fifteen years of age, I was instantaneously healed of scarlet fever. A Sunday School friend of mine came to see me, and when he saw that I was resentful and impatient with this experience of sickness, he honestly and lovingly pointed out how wrong these thoughts were and suggested I think of all the things I had to be grateful for and to fill my thoughts completely with all the good around me. The spell was broken, and the healing was manifested by a complete reversal of the outward appearance. After his completion of college several years later this friend and I were married.

I have been healed of being tongue-tied, of bilious attacks, which lasted only through grammar school, rheumatism in my left arm, injury to my lower backbone, and a skin rash that kept me out of school for two weeks but brought with the healing several other healings, including the instantaneous healing of inability to read, the overcoming of fear to speak in front of the class, and timidity in acknowledging that I attended the Christian Science Sunday School. All these healings came about through complete reliance on God through the teachings of Christian Science.

Our son was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School at age two and a half years. He has had many outstanding healings, both physical and environmental. He was blessed with outstanding Sunday School teachers and public school teachers through my conscious awareness that there is only one teacher, God. I give his reading of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's books the credit for his ability to read with above average understanding and for his large vocabulary.

While in high school, our son broke his nose during a physical education class. The head coach said the nose was broken. The assistant coach knew that our son was from a Christian Science family and said he thought nothing should be done until the parents were called. The boy's father happened to be home, took the phone message, and went to the school for him. We all three refused to accept the false picture of injury and disfigurement, turning to God in complete confidence. By the following morning the nose was back to its natural shape, and the boy returned to school. Christian Science was given the credit by both coaches. This was an example of perfect bonesetting through prayer by our son, his father, and myself.

While at college, this young man was in the science department when an accident occurred with ignited solvent. The skin of one hand and forearm was burned off. I was told about the quick and outstanding healing several weeks later when the new skin had completely formed. He said he was instantly ready with prayerful corrective thoughts. "This is the new birth going on hourly, by which men may entertain angels, the true ideas of God, the spiritual sense of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 548).

Our son represents the fourth generation, on both his maternal and paternal sides, of reliance on God through the understanding of the teachings of Christian Science. I give much credit for our family's happiness and well-being to our activity in local church membership and membership in The Mother Church.

I have always recognized Mrs. Eddy's revelation of the truth as Christ Jesus taught it. But reading the many different books of her life has greatly helped me appreciate what she did for all mankind.
