A College Student Writes
The Work I Am Doing
It is often said that knowing how to ask the question is the answer to half the problem.
It is natural to ask oneself, "Is the work I am doing (or going to do) really helping mankind?" The only trouble is that in posing the question this way one may be considering himself a struggling mortal, trying to originate good that is to help other struggling mortals.
As a Christian Scientist I have learned to restate the question: "Can I, realizing my true selfhood as a perfect reflection of God, express the qualities of wisdom, spiritual understanding, and love in my job, and thus help heal the mortal belief that true substance is matter instead of Spirit?" After all, God doesn't know us as lawyers or chemists, salesmen or housewives but as individual expressions of Himself, Soul, the source of all identity and purpose.
