Good Is Supreme
How can evil ever claim to destroy good? Is good helpless? Christian Science confidently assures us that because God is omnipotent and good, because He is All, good is supreme. This can be proved in our experience.
With evil seemingly having its own way so often, it is not surprising that many have either become skeptical or suspicious of good or have succumbed to indifference or apathy on the ground that evil's tide cannot be stemmed. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "If thought is startled at the strong claim of Science for the supremacy of God, or Truth, and doubts the supremacy of good, ought we not, contrariwise, to be astounded at the vigorous claims of evil and doubt them, and no longer think it natural to love sin and unnatural to forsake it,—no longer imagine evil to be ever-present and good absent?" Science and Health, p. 130;
Good may appear to be absent because the material senses present man as a mortal separated from God, good. On this false basis, evil would appear to claim supremacy and render goodness negative and ineffectual. But Christian Science uncovers the falsity of the material senses and leads thought to discern the impartial, universal goodness of God, which destroys the claims of evil.
